    XTR cranks

XTR cranks M960 to be exact:

Im thinking about switching to XTR cranks. Do i need to make any alterations to the cranks to run them single speed?

    Not with the bash guard

Blackspire sells a bash guard that can go on the outer spindle. You can modify the cranks by cutting down the spindle but it isn't necessary (but it looks really nice).

    Do it! Do it!

The M960 is a great crank! Here's mine - self modifiedusing a hacksaw, then a bench grinder to get overall shape, then a file, then some sandpaper in increasing grits depending on the finish you like.
