XC Racing- suspension fork or Disc brakes, choose.

Was thinking about this question when I did the 24 hour race in Spokane on a 4 person relay team. If you had to choose, disc brakes or a suspension fork on a SS what would you choose. Would your choice be different for a 29er compared to a 26 bike? I raced a rigid Bianchi Wuss SS with 26in wheels and BB7 disc brakes, I would go with disc over the fork myself, though I've never really tried a 29er either. The 24 hour race was also rocky and rough, much rougher/rockier then most of the trails I ride on the west side of WA state, tough course and race, first time trying a 24 relay for me as well.

Personally, disc. Rigid 29er is fun. But stopping is more important to me!

Good for you... 24 Hr relay race on a rigid ss 26" bike w/ mech brakes!

IMHO - If you are going to spend $$, I would not waste it on upgrading a SS 26" rigid bike. I would save a little more $ and consider buying a complete 29" SS with disc brakes.

My brakes cost more than my fork. So, yeah. Haha!

Really depends on terrain I think. Yeah, rigid feels really precise and climbing is fantastic. But here in central Texas the chunky rock just zaps me after such a short time frame. And I've never really taken issue with any brakes. Some stop better than others but Id much prefer the fork.
    Pedal through it!
