Womens' SS categories at Sea Otter

Just got this response from Sea Otter regarding women's Singlespeed categories. Tell all your friends as these categories are not listed on the registration forms!

They will be posting more info here:

    Hi Sabine,

We're glad to hear the Women's Single Speed category caught your attention. The interest expressed by a number of female Sea Otter single speeders spurred us to add the category. We thought we'd introduce it this year as a single lap race, but are willing to add an Expert class which will race two laps. The Expert class will be added to the schedule, and will start with the Expert Men's Single Speed field.

We're giving the Expert class a shot this year to see what type of response it generates. To keep it on the schedule in future years it needs to attract an adequate number of participants. So please, if you'd like to see it stay, rally all your friends to join you at the start line!

Thanks Sabine. See you in April!

    Erin

I guess we can throw this in the "thanks but no thanks" category.

Thanks for being one of the first race promotors to establish a women's
category for single speeds. But only one lap? For those of us who have been racing the men's event the last few years, one lap is a let down to say the least.

I do appreciate the change, but any woman tough enough to race ss probably wants the suffering that comes with doing 2 laps.

    Thanks for listening!

    Erin rocks!

nice! you got the response from Erin Martin, a nice girl who had stayed with us during her first encounter with Sea Otter back in 2002.

    She's nice.

Good luck in the SS class.
