Will I chew up my chainring?

I've got a 26er monocog and have been playing with different cogs. The orignals were 3/32 but the 18 tooth cog was 1/8. So I put on a 1/2 x 1/8 chain and everything seems to be running fine. My question is: is this OK? Will this chew up my chain ring? If/when I try another cog that's 3/32 again can I still use the 1/2 x 1/8 chain? Will the cog get eaten or do I risk dropping the chain?

    Thanks for the help.

Using a 1/8th chain does make you a hipster. Add in the 1/8th cog you are wearing skinny jeans with a "Hulkamania" t-shirt (ironic because you weren't born yet), but the 3/32 chainring keeps you from having to mtb with a water bladder in a messenger bag.
