Where to buy a 1/2 chain link?

I remember people mentioning using a 1/2 chain link to adjust chain tension... but where can I buy one of those suckers? And does it have to be the same as the chain I'm using ie, Sram PC68.. Shimano..etc?

    Thanks,

    Phil.

    or you can buy

a chain made entirely of half-links. Try http://flatlandfuel.com/

they may also have half-links in stock. make sure you buy the correct half-link for your chain... 3/32 or 1/8 are the most common.

Call around your local shops first, especially those that sell BMX bikes. KMC half links are available through distributor QBP.

First you'll need to know whether your chain is 3/32" (standard 9 speed) or 1/8" BMX, Track, SS etc. Finding a shop that stocks the 3/32" might be a hassle.

There are tons of online sources, but paying shipping for a $2.00 part is probably something you'd like to avoid.

I do like those chains made entirely of 1/2 links! Didn't know they existed. Do they work as well as the "normal" chains? I think I'll try one of those if my local bike shops don't have the 1/2 links.

I'm using 8speed chains.. guess I'll need the 1/8 size..

    Thanks for the help. =)

8 speed would still be 3/32".

I'm starting to understand the difference between 3/32 and 1/8 hehe.

I went to a local bike shop and bought a bmx chain made entirely of 1/2 links. They looked good and beefy... and when I did put the chains on, they fit nicely... BUT! it's so beefy that it's rubbing the bashguard on crankset. =/

The shop did sell some 1/2 links for the 8speed chain but I wanted a cleaner look and thought the 1/2 link chain would work. *sigh*

Either way, it still looks like I'd need a chain tensioner as there is still slack with the 1/2 link chain.

Thanks for the help and the links. =) We are almost there!
