wheels choice for SS with horizontal drop outs

Looking to put together a SS with horizontal dropouts. Any inputs for wheel choices. IT IS A 29er. QR or bolts?

Bolt on if you can get it. A good skewer, like an XT will work, or a skewer and a Surly Tuggnut with the QR adapter washer works well. Bolt on is preferred. Are you looking for prebuilt or are you going to have them built?

    Hey bobba fett,

DON'T go with QR. No matter what kind of tensioning system you use, you will always get some slipping (IMHO). Singlespeeding just generates too much torque for a QR to hold.

There are lots of really nice singlespeed rear hubs with bolts (Spot, DT, Paul, Surly, King, etc. etc.). It just depends on how much you want to spend.

Or, you can convert a standard MTB rear hub with a spacer kit. Just change the QR axle to a solid steel one with axle nuts. This setup, on Shimano hubs, works great - I've used it trouble free for years. Another friend who was having tons of trouble with his wheel slipping (even with a Spot tensioner) made this conversion and has never had a problem since.

    Good luck,

    E

Agree with previous posters re: bolts. Had QR on my SS, was always slipping. Went to a bolt-on hub and have not had a problem since.
