What's with the SS'ers with ZZ Top beards??

I see them all over the place when I go riding.

    What gives?

I kinda dig the "soul" style tho

Been riding SS since '96 and I still can't grow any facial hair, well I can but its kind of patchy and makes me look like a mangy-rat :-)

Perhaps a fake-beard is needed with Ti wire ear-loops? How about a Jeff Jones signature model? :-)

Cool-blue Rhythm Uh how how how how

Can't speak for the rest of us grizzlies, but as for me, when I gave up roadbikes and shaving my legs, it just went from there.

    Anti-Fashion

It goes right along with the SS anti-style style.

For me, it's my huge cowboy mustache. Next stop, flat top, son!

It has something to do with the beer

Or so I think. This is a little shorter than it usually is, I took a trip to Malaysia and Japan and the long ZZ top style one is waaay too hot for the temperature as well as for customs and passport control. It is growing back nicely now.

Jesus Christ! Maybe it has something to do with we Englishmen (or of English descent), but I drink a pantload of beer and I'd say "rat hair" pretty much sums it up for my facial hair growth abilities. Maybe next year I'll hit puberty for real...at 26.

Who knew facial hair could go so well with a skin-tight mini?

We've got a healthy SS racing scene here in Northern Virginy....
BTW that's not me in the picture above, I couldn't grow facial hair if my life depended on it.

For the record, singlespeeders of Chinese descent do not subscribe to this bearded image. Quite simply, we can't.

As try as I might, I just can't achieve that look. I haven't ever shaved my face and I just can't get a beard or a moustache to grow.

    Any tips?

You might try the board shorts with plaid button up shirt, arm and knee pads. I see that one once in a while. It works w/o beard.

Cutoff jeans have some potential too. I just got my pads...

That would be better than taking lots of steroids. Besides, I wouldn't want to raise any red flags when I'm racing, ya know, just in case I go fast enough to get noticed for a drug test.

As it is, I may have to start training for the SSWC...

At about 3am, can't quite remember, Tinker came through the transition and maybe two minutes later my guy came though. I felt pretty fresh, my fourth lap. Tinks 10th maybe.

I saw this little light speeding up the first climb. Never saw him again.
He did pass me on my third lap. Actually, I was embarassed and pulled over to let him pass on a switchy downhill.

Wow! I was actually kidding about the guy beside you in the picture, but racing against Tink is cool also. That isn't him beside you, is it?

You weren't in Moab at the end of April/early May by chance were you. I swear I saw that bike in the Mondo Cafe parking lot.

Tink must of past me 50 times during races.

    Reel the beards back in.......

I raced at 24HTOP and Ben passed me. I was impressed with his skill and beard. Not sure if he ever SSd. He had the beard for it.

See you at the Big race Ben.

    I wish.
I'm gonna get my travel on this year. Hopefully by the end of Aug. I'll be retired.

I will go to the Mondo and my bike will kick the other bikes @$$.

What are the chances of two bikes that look like that? Come to think of it the one in Moab might have been geared. Perish the thought!
