Treated like a king in the OC

I flew into town and budget upgraded me to big leather and a v8.

I forgot to charge my lights, and a tech at my customer site hooked me up with a power supply and some clips to get the job done.

I got a couple tacos on the way to the trailhead, and they were extra tasty.

I got to the trailhead and Donkey (aka Brian) handed over his sweet Karate Monkey complete with 9spd thumbies and discs. I bolted on my pedals, screwed on my new Flamethrower, and met up with some old friends and mtbr acquaintances. There must've been 30 riders who showed up just because I was in town, or maybe it was because it was MikeM's birthday, I'm not sure. They treated me to a long road climb followed by a long singletrack climb, followed by "the luge", a long, rocky, dirt bobsled run with some cacti and dark, deep-looking drop-offs on both sides. Finally there was a gravity race down the blacktop back to the cars. I was in the lead for a while, but being in the pelaton at 40 with heads down on an unfamiliar bike led me to sit up tall for some air brakes. It was fun to watch. I was thinking that if there would have been a crash it would've been really ugly.

At the biker bar, Hugh sported for a burger and fries, and Padre, or Donkey, or SlowSSer bought a quenching amount of Newcastle Brown. I'm buying at Sea Otter or May by the Bay!

Finally I arrived at the recommended La Quinta off Sand Canyon (that's some long-ass road, eh Jeff?) and I-5, er, I mean the 5, and got free dsl and free breakfast for a good price.

Good times down there. Thanks a bunch, and I look forward to hosting in the coming months.

Eddy

Hey Eddie

I did that ride in the daytime with slowSSer, his dad and a couple other blokes. Can't imagine at night. Sounded like a real hoot. I remember climbing, more climbing, then there was more, and when I thought we were going to go down, there was more climbing. Then we hit the dirt. I thought we missed the turn-off for heaven... Later we came down Luge, what a slot of fun!
We going to see some of you in the near future?

Definitely not the upcoming BC. Too much work and family obligations, and we've got Sea Otter and May by the Bay coming up that will eat deeply into my "Honey, may I" fund.

If you were to gather a truckload of Oregonians and come down for MBTB, we could show you a thing or two. Both parks we're riding are very SS friendly, and I-5 is a straight shot over on Hwy 20 from Clearlake for a quick escape on Memorial Day.

It was great meeting you and great getting a little ride in...OC-style.
We don't usually frequent the biker bar much but it was a hoot to hang out.
Looking forward to hooking up again at Sea Otter.

Did you ever figure out who's socks those were? =)

By the way..it wasn't me who contributed toward the Newcastle Brown..I was suffering along w/ my sinkwater-Bud not knowing they had the good stuff stashed in the back..

I remember now.

The "other guy" is Ed from OTB Mountain Bike Club. His truck is the red one with DVD and three screens! MTB dvds on the way to the trailhead! Hugh, meet Ed:
