    Touring in Provence (France)

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a bicycle touring trip in Provence. I was the first time we tried bicycle touring. Before we went, I convinced my girlfriend that it would be cool to do it on singlespeeds. She did not know what to expect, so se thought it sounded fine, although she had a hard time answering the question - "Why do you only have one gear?" - which she got a million times.

Our bikes got a lot of attention, and people had a hard time understanding that there really only was one gear. They could not quite understand how we did it in the mountains.

We tried to travel as light as possible, with only a smallish carradice (Barley) saddlebag and a hydration backpack. We washed the most important clothes everyday, and slept in cheap hotels.

Here are a couple of pics:

The bikes in Denmark ready to go. We are on our way to our bus-pickup.

Some nice riding with a beautiful background-scenery.

We both did Mt. Ventoux (of tour de france fame). My girlfriend did it all the way without stopping for a break.

    Self-portrait of both of us...

    Best regards

    Hi !
There's very cool pictures on your site !
How long did you stay ? And the usual question: which transmission ratio ? ;-)

    Cheers,
    Francois

    Thank you :-)

We were in france 14 days, but only bicycled 12 days - a total of 632 km. We both ran 42*16.

    Best regards

    Nice pictures!

But Mt Ventouxn one gear? I wonder if that's been done before? Great job!

I just got back from the Alps and Provence and that Mt. Ventoux climb has to be the toughest climb ever done on two wheels. Gears or SS.

    Wow! Something familiar!

    I've driven this road:

The roads there are so perfect for touring. What a great adventure.
