Thinking of possibly joining the Singlespeed ranks...

And have been looking at the Kona Big Unit for 2012. What do you guys think? Anyone ride the earlier versions? Impressions/suggestions?

I think the earlier frames have had cracking issues (07-08?), but new ones seem to be solid. I'd also cross shop Redline Monocog Flight and Surly Karate Monkey.

Thanks for the feedback. What are your thoughts on the 2012 Trek Rig? I'm sure I'd need to upgrade the brakes...

why change the brakes, there a pretty solid setup? I'd change the rims for sure the Mustang rim is a tank and weighs a ton, get something lighter like a Stans Crest rim.

Id prolly throw the cranks in the garbage to and buy the e-thirteen setup as well

I'm not real familiar with Avid hydraulic brakes, but isn't Elixer 1's pretty low spec?

I have a 2011 Big Unit that I built off of and if the 2012 is anything like the '11 you will not be disappointed geometry-wise.

Spec components are spec components ...who doesn't upgrade some of them? Thought as-is its a pretty good package IMO.

it is a no brainer, lifetime on the frame from Jamis and the new 2012 frame is $900.00
