im an avid surfer from socal (im debating whether to surf or bike this morning )and id say thatd be a fair comparison.

SS: harder to ride (at first), need more strength
Alaias: thin, doesnt float well, need more strength to paddle

SS: simple beauty, no gears, rd, fd, shifters
Alaias: simple beauty, no fin, no leash, just a piece of wood

    SS: rockin it old skool
Alaias: cant get any more old skool except for surfing 100lb planks of koa wood.

ive seen these in action while surfing malibu. they were doing a photo shoot along the famous surfrider wall. its awesome what they can do on those. spins, slides, etc.

    btw, any other mtb-ers surf?

Not sure I would say the same for SS or Fixie. But an SS does take me back to the fun I had as a kid riding my bike, which was an SS....

I live in San Pedro and surf the South Bay in the winter and Sunset to Bolsa in the summer. With a big west swell I'll surf the point a couple blocks from home. I ride a Bruce Jones 9'2" custom high performance long board usually with a single fin set up--I switch to the tri-fin set for steeper waves.

My surfing experience precedes my mtn biking -----surfing 40yrs-----mtn biking only 30yrs

May see you on the water or trails one day!

Sort of like skim surfing. (surfing on your skimboard).
