    SSing on the beach

Going to Cape Hatteras in Sept, how did your SS fair on the beach? I think it will be fine on the hard packed sand close to the surf with the tires I have on (Kenda Karma's 29x2.2) Did you gear your bike any different ? My current setup is 33x20 for trails and 33x17 for rail trails with the wife.

my local sandy beach is unridable without a fat tire bike....until the winter temps dip below the mid 20s F, and then it's a magical fast hard-packed frozen ride.

The sand is also pretty hard-packed from the wind at the base of the dune. This was about the best even on a fatbike. Try it and use a low gear. I rode my Pugsley there but may be ok with smaller tires on the harder areas.

One thing to remember about riding that close to the surf is that the salt water will eat up your bike. After just a week at the beach I was noticing a lot of corrosion appearing, and I wasn't that close to the water.

Tribble Me, yeah I ran into the corrosion also in July when we took our kayaks, the cables for the rudder had salt build up at the bolts and the stand for the kayaks we took down had rust on the bolts in just 2 days, and we were on the bayside not oceanside. My Jamis SS is steel, I was planning on riding at low tide when the sand is firm and not wet then hosing it off when I get back and then putting it in the house to keep it out of the air.

Well I was able to ride at low tide, just had to watch out for dogs unleashed and people fishing, nice sunsets views from the house we rented.
