    SS Race - recommendations

    Hi everyone !

I will ride in a 55 km local bike marathon on the outskirts of Bucharest, Romania.

The profile is pretty flat :

but I will ride on my SS MTB (as I didn't bother to get myself a geared MTB, I like road better). I usually commute on this bike 10 km daily (rigid heavy steel, 42/18 ratio) :

I have a modest-medium endurance, I have travelled by bike on some medium-long distance tours (140 km the longest), but never at a contest on SS.

Do you have some practical advice on how to ride this marathon (tactically, technically etc) ? (I don't intend to win, it's just a ride with the friends; I already know the trail, I've ridden it last year at the same contest,, but the bike was geared then ).

Change the gearing. I would try 32x16 or a 34 with the 18 t cog you have. Try to keep a fairly even pace and if you find you are feeling good you can up it a bit. If it is fairly flat you may need a steeper gear. Learn to spin at a fast cadence!
