    SS chain half link

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a half link for my SS? I want to put a bigger tire on the back of my Monocog (2.3) and I either get the chain too short or too long, so either the tire is rubbing on the chainstay or the axel is almost out of the dropouts on the back. I tryed to find a site that carries halflinks, but so far I'm coming up empty.

If you have a LBS that caters to fixed gear riders / messengers check them out.

Also, I noticed that AEbike has KMC 1/2 links listed - if they have them, then any LBS that has an account with QBP (very popular supplier to bike shops) can get them too. Most bike shops have an account with QBP.

    Get one from Gene Spicer

I have gotten two half links to fit standard 8 speed chains from spicercycles.com. They were around $10 each. They were a little stiff in the chain at first, but they loosened and work well now. I ordered a PC58 at the same time and Gene even put the half-link in for me!

I also got mine from Gene at Spicer Cycles. Great guy to boot. $10 shipped. It can be used several times.

I picked up a couple of the KMC 3/32" half-links from Bikeman a while back. Unfortunately, I couldn't get them to go together with my Sram 8-speed chain. It was a combination of the half-link being too wide to fit the powerlink over, and also the hole in it being too small to run a regular link pin through it. They might work better with KMC chains, but I haven't tried yet. Here's a pic of them, for reference (sorry, focus is a little off):

www.danscomp.com has them for 2 chain sizes

Check them out at www.danscomp.com. Look under Parts, Chains, half link. It's only $1.99 so you have to order some other cool stuff. Get yourself some chain tugs (tensioners) too.

Here's a recycled photo from last year from this site - that's a chain after my own heart.

you betcha! Gene is a solid guy to work with. Ive been running his half link since his he first started them with a prototype about a yer back. Never a single problem.
