    Spoke selection for SS build

Curious as to what general guidance is for spoke choices for a single speed (ie, does torque associated with single speeding change general thinking of appropriate spoke choice?).

I weigh about 175 lbs and will be running DT Swiss XR4.1d rims. In general, my sense is that given my weight, I am just under the weight at which "general" recommendations would suggest that Supercomps could be an ok choice. However, for SSing and wanting to ride hard etc...would it be better just to go with Competition spokes and pay a 60 gram weight penalty? And are brass nipples the norm? In total, it comes out to 110 gram difference between Supercomps/alloy nipples and Competition/brass nipples so I figured I would ask the experts.

    Cheers and thanks in advance

    Yes....

Brent or Larry should be able to help you out.

My personal exp. is brass doesn't matter (at least for me), I started SSing at 210 pounds on 517's, Al. nips, and straight 15's. - I'm not Hans Rey but I'm fairly fluid & aggressive and have no issues with my wheels.

How far off is your build from being complete???

    Thanks.

As far as how far off.....the nipples/spokes are the only thing I did not confirm with Larry which is why he needs the info. Of course I will ultimately defer to him as he has never steered me wrong but nonetheless, was curious. Larry has been SO SWAMPED and I am stoked he now actually has time to start the wheels.

    cheers

    I can't wait any longer!

I just called Larry to get his advice but he is probably busy building one of the million Turners he has sold so I could not get a hold of him.....yet

I am, at this second, leaning towards DT Competition 2.0/1.8 silver spokes with silver brass nipples and not worrying about the extra 109 grams. I want this bike to last forever, or as close to possible as forever without having to fuss with it.

Some of my other parts were not in stock and needed to be ordered I am srue but the wheelbuild should be the rate limiting factor of course.

    cheers
