    soft tail

Who rides or has ridden a SS softail, what did you think of the ride compared to a hard tail?

I have a Castellano fango that I ENO'd for a year or so, and I really enjoyed it. In terms of handling it felt have similar to a hardtail. It climbed extremely well, probably better than my 29er. The extra cush was definitely nice to have.

I've got a KHS that I converted (track ends) to single-speed and I love it. It takes the harshness out of really rocky stuff but still climbs great.

    throwing chains

I eno'd this, and didn't really have significant chain-throwing problems, but it did happen a couple times. I would run a bigger gear combo if I was using it a lot.

The only time I ever tossed chains was when I was using a tensioner. And that wasn't because of the soft-tail... it was a tensioner issue. Since I converted to trackends and put on a Surly Tuggnut, I haven't dropped the chain once.

The soft-tail really doesn't flex enough to drop the chain, IMO.

Pics because I like showing it off.

    Right after converting:
