    SLX crankset converted to SS...

I'm thinking of changing out my current set-up. I was gonna try out an Shimano SLX crankset converted to SS. My only concern is my chainline with the external BB. I ride a Surly 1x1 with a Surly hub, thread on freewheel. Has anyone had any experiences with this set up? If so, please let me know how it worked... or didn't. Thanks.

Just get spacers to get a proper chain line. Got my wife's set up with SLX cranks. Easier with ext BB.

Chainline with External Shimano Bottom Bracket

    Yes, you'll be fine.

    1) There are 3 plastic ring spacers, 1 on drive side and 2 on non drive side or vice versa. These allow chainline adjustment with 1 x 2 x 3 chainrings.

    2) The spider itself should allow a chainring to be mounted on the inside flush (bashguard on outside) or mounted on the outside in place of the bashguard. This also allows chainline adjustment.

I prefer the Phil Wood square taper bb's with the cups adjusting 5mm + or - and the many axle lengths made to dial in chainline exactly like a fine tuned track racer. Costly though ;-)
