    Singlespeed in Cochrane, Alberta?

    Hey everyone,

I'm moving to Cochrane, Alberta in September and I was wondering if there is any good riding minutes (as the bike flies) from town? I hear there's good riding in Canmore which is 45 minutes away by car, BUT since I won't be bringing one, it doesn't help much.

Anyone out there ride singlespeed or will my Surly stick out like a sore thumb in a sea of 5 inch travel double boingers with integrated clicking brake and shift levers?

Just wondering and thanks for your help,

    Pax

I lived outside of Calgary for a while, and you're off to a beatuiful locale. I was a student at the time, and didn't get much riding in, but I know you don't need to go as far as Canmore. Peter Loughheed, just outside of Black Diamond/Millarville/Turner Valley has a substantial trail network, and they're pretty bike-friendly. Beware of winter and spring mud though, as it gets pretty heavy.

You might want to try the local boards or Passion, as I know there's several folks on the board from Calgary (or Lethbridge). You can ride your SS anywhere gearies can go anyway! Enjoy your new home.

    Singlespeeding in Cochrane

Hey Surlyvee, can't say there's a ton of riding in Cochrane but around the area there is a lot. Several guys from our club ride singlespeeds. Check our website when you get here and maybe we can hook up.
    Cheers

    Pax,

Welcome to town, I live in Calgary and ride ss with "deadgoat".

As he mentioned, not very much for dirty trails around cochrane, great road riding however. The trail network in Calgary and just west of you is absolutely world class. There's always a spare bike tray on our rides so stay in the loop.

    cheers,
    b.
