if you're looking for advice on how to convert it, read the "SS FAQ" link at the top of this page. that bike has some pretty low-end derailleurs, so single-speed might be the best thing that can happen to it.

the first problem you will encounter will be the front chainring. the rings are most likely riveted or pressed together, so you won't be able to take them apart and put a SS ring on there.

the other problem will likely be the rear hub. you can take the 7-speed freewheel (it's a freewheel and not a cassette, I assume) off and replace it with a single-speed freewheel, but that will throw off the chainline by a lot until you re-space the axle and dish the wheel accordingly. however, if you re-space the hub, you will throw off the spacing for the disc rotor back there. you might be stuck riding with really terrible chain line (not a good idea) or you will need to buy a new hub. if the hub has a cassette/freehub interface instead of a freewheel, scratch that last bit. you can just put a SS cog on your freehub and some spacers to line it up with your front chainring.

you will need a chain-tensioning device of some sort, or find a magic gear.

sorry to be the bicycle snob here, but I have to say it: you're wasting your time with a Walgoose. the best thing to do would be to ride it normal until you destroy it and buy a decent bike.

I totally understand where you are coming from, trust me I have had the thought that it's crazy to sink this much into A Wal Mart bike...

I knew what I was buying at the time,I was on a very tight budget I had at the most $400
to spend for my wife and I together..I wasn't even sure Iwould stick with riding....

    I do have a decent frame..I bought A Surly rigid fork,A new crankset,new wheelset.,FU2 bars etc....

My plan is to buy a Misfit frame when I get that $ scraped up..

I 've also bought a Park bike stand, several tools and a manual so I can learn how
to all this on my own.....

I'm all about to each his own, this is my path to follow and learn...
So what if I started on the cheap.I'm not smokin anymore and I'm out riding and contributing......

Dude, if you're having fun, don't let anyone tell you what to do. At least your spending time on a worthwhile hobby and learning something while you're at it!

Amen!!!! But when someone tells me I am wasting my time,I have to retort..

When I get done I will know my bike inside and out and no one else will have one like it.

I also plan on painting it black,The wheels I bought have red rims..
