Single speed cleans up 24 hour race

Look at this site! Strathpuffer 24

This race aims to be the toughest 24 hour race in Britain. It's held in the mountains of Scotland at the height of winter (17 hours of darkness).

The weather was kind this time - no snow, just subzero - but there was plenty of mud. Several kilometres of ankle deep mud.

The bicycle shop booth sold several complete replacement drivetrains to the geared crowd! One competitor saw the light and had his bike converted to a single speed halfway through the race.

Even though there was no separate class for single speeds, 4 soloists rode the race on them.

So congratulations to Jean-Claude Van Der Veken who swept to victory in the solo class.
"The man is richest whose pleasures are the cheapest" Henry David Thoreau (obviously a single speeder)

"...everytime you throw something away your load gets lighter..."
