    Should I sell my 1x1?

I have a Surly 1x1 that I got for cheap on ebay, and I rode it all last summer. I liked SSing so much that I built up a singlespeed Karate Monkey, which is awesome. I can't imagine a situation that'd cause me to choose the 1x1 over the KM.

I have a friend who wants to buy the 1x1. He's pretty much broke, but has caught the SS fever this winter. If I sold him the bike for cheap, I'd have someone else to SS with.

BUT, I've read some laments on this board by people who sold their 1x1s and regretted it ever since. It's a really soulful ride, that's for sure. What it lacks in hand-craftsmanship, it surely makes up for in attitude.

Is it better to spread the love or keep the 1x1?

Spread it! The love I mean!

Sell Him the bike. Only make a ruling that if He plans to get rid of it, that it has to go back to You. A friend to ride with is a priceless thing.

    agreed sell it

sell it but get 'right of first refusal' as they say in the real estate bizniz. so if he ever sells it, you get first rights to buy it back. sort of a loan. if you will indeed ride with this guy often, you can always take a spin on it now and again.
    Only boring people get bored.

    Good job!

I agree. Spread the love. Sell it with the stipulation that your buddy has to sell it back to you.

You could sell it to your friend, but the first time you ride together he'll be upset that he can't catch the Monkey. 29er's just flat fly

Sell it! The 26" never feel right anymore after that. Selling it to your buddy is the next best thing to keeping it....it's still in the family!

    sell

but only if you will never use it and never build it up or upgrade it with discs. You can always buy a new one, but new ones have discs tabs, which IMO look really ugly when using v brakes.

    I agree with everyone else...

Sell it to your friend cheap with the stipulation that when he upgrades to a bling SS that he sells the frame back to you. And, if you want, add that he can only sell it to you for the price he paid for it. These damn pre-nups, eh?
A good friend will come bail you out of jail.
But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying
    "Damn... we fcuked up!"

    yea

spread the SS love. This way you get to see your friend having a blast on it. And the bike will be happy being ridin insted of collecting dust somewhere.

So what I'm hearing is that I should sell it?

    Thanks for the input, all.
