    Shop put in gearie cog?!

I picked up my bike today 3 days after it was supposed to be repaired (Supergo... )
ok, so first of all, my initial problem was that the chain was constantly making a pretty nasty snapping noise and was basically unrideable. And second, the Singleator needed some inspecting, as I installed the Push Up spring and it continued to push down.

So I pick it up, and see the mechanic has done 2 things.

Replaced a plain ss cog with a used casset cog.
    Fixed the chainline.

So my question is, am I the only one who ran a 8 speed chain with non-gearie cogs and chianrings?
And will this cog cause any derailling and gauging of the freehub?

Sorry for all the questions, any help at all will be appreciated

the used cassette cog shouldn't be a problem on that hub.

Was the SS cog worn? If not, I'd try and get it back. They're designed to keep the chain on the gear, as opposed to cassette cogs, which are designed more for smooth shifting of the chain off of the gear.

8-speed chains work fine on SS stuff.

I think you were having problems with your Singleator because you weren't pre-tensioning the spring enough. You need to dial in some tension to keep the spring loaded and pressing up on the chain. You can either use an 8mm cone wrench to hold the spring retainer while tightening the bolt, or swing it around. For instance, if you want the Singleator to end up pointing towards 2 o'clock, tighten the bolt down while it's at 11 or 12 and swing it clockwise. It's there in the instructions.

thanks for the input so far...

I forgot to add that the mechainic replaced my 18t cog with a 19t casset cog. So I would be changing it anyways... 19t is too big a gear. As for the Singleator, I'll take yet another look at the instructions.
But not only did the push up spring push down, but it also got stuck inside the singleator.
Dont' really know what to do...

and yes it was the SM Supergo

Do that. Something's definately not right - take it apart and start from scratch.

    Why Supergo?

Supergo is notorious for their [email protected] service. I recommend taking it to Helen's in Santa Monica next time.

Awesome! Those things work fine once they're set up correctly.

I've gotten better service from Supergo than from Helen's.
