    Removing links on chain

    how i can remove chain links if I don't have the special tool? Can the pins be hammered out?

    No. Doing so will cause a rift in the space/time continuum. The universe will implode. Stop considering such nonsense and go purchase the tool.

    It can be done, but don't! In my impecunious youth my toolkit contained an old wheel nut (used as anvil) and a couple of nails of the right diameter with their ends squared off with a file. (If you use nails, you'll need a few because you're going to bend them). The bashing implement was whatever rock I found beside the road.

    A proper steel punch would be much better than a nail.

    Separating the chain this way was always a pain in the fundament.

    But the best advice is don't waste your time. BUY the tool - it's so easy.

    well my redeneck raising wouldn't allow me to do something the right way. hammer and punch worked great!
