    rear derailleur convert to tensioner

Hey, I was wondering how you convert a rear derailleur to strictly a chain tensioner for SS? It seems that it's a great way to save some dough. You could also direct me to any sites that might give instructions. Thanks...

Check out the FAQ link in the upper right hand corner. I used a rear derailleur for a while with zero problems by just adjusting the high and low limits screws.

I just did it with an old Campy road derailluer I had. What I did was move the cog over as far right as possible, screwed down the hi and lo screws, and then snaked the chain through as you would with any derailluer. It's a quick fix until I get a new tensioner (because the damn thing weighs a tone), but it seems to work just fine.

for excellent discussion on using a drailleur as a tensioner. Look in the Keiths rants section.
