RD (w/o modification at all) as a chain tensioner, it is possible ??

Im indra from Indonesia, I want to make a SS from my MTB frame with vertical dropout, but I dont have any budget to buy that Da bomb tensioner which is as expensive as Shimano Deore RD (I wonder why its possible ??), and I also dont want to breaking my old RD to convert it to chain tensioner

my question is same as the title, is it possible to use my old RD without any modification to use it as a chain tensioner ????

    welcome indra!

yes, it is possible to use the RD as your tensioner. just set the limit screws when you get it aligned with the cog/gear that you have and you are set.

You can also install a small bit of cable with the "barrel" end in the barrel adjuster on the der if you have one and set the cable tension to hold it right where you want it.

Hi Indra, welcome. Both the ideas posted will work just fine. I would probably adjust the limit screws, but the cable is a neat idea as well.
