Listen! Questions about going to 1/8th with HBC

    hey guys,

Working on a 09 GT Peace that I got new old stock. When I ordered the bike every resource on-line said it came with a 1/8th chain- so I ordered a new colored one to match the bling I was adding. When the bike got here yesterday, surprise surprise- it had a 3/32 with matching chain ring and cog.

I am putting a Purely Custom soft touch bash guard on it and I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a 1/8th cog and chain ring from HomeBrewed Components. Here are my questions:

    1) Will I need some sort of way to space the 1/8th chain ring from the Bash guard? the 3/32 chain ring runs close enough to the bash guard (the 3/32 chain fits) but I have concerns that a wider 1/8th might not fit.

    2) Will I need longer than normal chain ring bolts? I've ordered 8mm from PC

    3) How easy is it to install a new wider cog?

    4) This is a spindled cog right?

    5) Any advice?

    1) Should work fine

    3) Lock ring tool and chainwhip + 5 min. Super easy.
    4) Yes, that is a POS stamped splined cog.
    5) Yes, sell that hipstamatic colored chain to the next fixie guy you see and order 3/32 from CR/cog from HBC. Then get a SRAM 8-9speed chain with powerlink.

Thanks for the answers! I'm pretty sure you'll vomit a bit in your mouth when you see the finished build.

Is this going to be a build of bad taste? Completely clashing colours on every component imaginable?

Depends on your idea of "Clashing colours".

    Ha.

I typed colors with a "u" in there. I'm definitely a SS rider now.
