    Questions about converting my geared bike to a ss

    I have a friend that has a race face ride dh crankset laying around, but my question is will it fit my bike? Can I use any crankset?? My conversion bike is a trek 3900

    yes, unless the crankset has 83mm bottom bracket spacing. if it is 68/73mm, its a go.

    You can also use your current crankset by stripping off the outer and inner rings and putting the ring of your choice in the middle. Then you don't have to mess around figuring out if the new bb is going to fit.

    I would do that but my factory chain rings are riveted together rather than bolted, thanks though

    You can also grind the teeth off of the big ring and use the middle ring/ free bash guard.

    Any update on this project? I have a Trek 3900 as well that I am going to convert to SS. Would be interested to know how yours turned out and what parts you are using.
