PF30 EBB conversion in a carbon frame

Has anyone tried either the beer components or the problem solver's PF30 EBB in a carbon frame (Specialized Stumpjumper carbon 29) What were the results? Did it slip? Crush the carbon?? Neither company will endorse the use in a carbon frame & say ask the frame manufacturer. Thanks!! SM

I know that Niner says not to use one in an RDO. You could probably call Specialized's customer service or ask your local Specialized dealer for advice.

Thanks for the thoughts but I am the Specialized dealer. Specialized CS say "No" but are basically putting a rubber stamp on the conversion to protect themselves for warranty purposes. They have no hard data, I'm sure Niner is in the same boat.
I'm trolling to see if anyone has has had the balls to convert the frame anyhow. (or any other Carbon PF30 for that matter)

I know a guy who converted a Niner RDO with White Brothers Eccentric Hub and he is having great luck. The hub does come with a special IS brake adaptor to follow the rotation of the hub and since the Niner (and Stumpjumper) is Post Mount, he had to shim the rear brake caliper. But, like I said, it seems to be working good. I don't know if this would be an option for you.

Yeah I've done it....not to a MTB bike, but to my carbon cross bike, a Felt F1X frame that I installed a purple BEER Components EBB for BB30.

It doesn't slip and it works great. Raced a full cyclocross season on it last winter and intend to do the same again this fall / winter as well. I'm actually riding it through the summer as a SS road bike and it's awesome.

I didn't bother to contact Felt regarding if it void the warranty. It probably does...that's why I didn't even ask

Considering that the EBB design is damn near identical for PF30 & BB30 apart from the ID and bearings, I'd say Tyrone had a valid point.

The EBB design is nearly identical. I'm not sure why it's a "totally different" game? They both clamp onto and 'squeeze' the outer shell for tension.

FWIW -- I've also tested the PF version of the EBB. Didn't use it much, but in the limited amount of testing I did, I had no issues. (I only had a handful of rides on it, versus an entire season, which is why I didn't mention it originally...and the designs are so similar I didn't think it mattered)

Since your signature says "Rule #5 always applies"...then take that advice, apply it here, and just do it.
