    OT: Lightweght homemade camping gear

Lef-t's excellent post got me to thinking about a planned overnight assault I'm planning for this year that involves mountain biking and hiking. Any suggestions for DIY lightweight camping gear? Enough to be relatively comfortable but still small enough to not interfere with riding the bike.

    check http://www.hikinghq.net/

sgt Rock has some great stove/backpack/shelter ideas.

I built the stove and it works great. I cant grill a steak on it but it makes some nice soup and coffee.

And it's no nonsense what he preaches

    ray jardine gets my vote.

i use some lightweight stuff too... silicon-impregnated tarp for shelter, small thermarest for a mattress, light-weight down bag, and a light backpack makes for easy touring. from clothes to cooking/food & water i have my bag down to about 14 pounds for an overnight/2day excursion (with a 2 night stay it gets a little heavier because of food).
