    Newbie question

Been riding for a bit but not up to speed on BB compatabilty.

I'm looking at a SS complete bike that comes with an ISIS BB. I hear these do not work well for SS. Can I swap this out to a non ISIS BB crank set up?

    Thanks in advance

    Sure you can.

Square tapers are popular and external BB are starting to appear on more and more SS bikes.

Personally I would ride the ISIS BB until there is a problem and then look at replacing it, this will also allow for plenty of time to find a good deal on a replacement.

You'll just have to make sure the BB you replace it with has the correct shell width, spindle length and the proper threading. All stuff you can find from a spec sheet for your bike or by pulling the BB out of the bike.

One other thing, while you can still find some square taper cranks they aren't as plentiful as ISIS or external BB cranks.
