    New single speed bike

Thinking of getting a new SS for this spring. The local shop I usually deal with mostly deals with Specialized bikes. But they don't have a complete bike for this year just a high end carbon frame. What other brands should I look at? I know this can open a big can of worms. But to help narrow it down some I'm looking for a 29er and maybe around the 2k price. The lower the better. This won't be my main rig so there is no need to dump a bunch of money into it.

Kona Unit for around $1000. Rigid but you'll have plenty left over if you want a fork.

Look on Ebay. You should be able to get something lightly used for $500.

See if your LBS has access to any other brands and if they have suggestions on what they can get for you.

If you bought a frame could your LBS put together a build kit for you.
There are a lot of frames if you want to go that route.
    Tomac
    Soul
    Niner
    Singular
    Salsa
    Surly

Most bike shops can get Surly and Salsa. A lot of them can get Niner. Soul, Tomac, and Singular you deal directly with.

I like the idea of the Kona I have Explosif now but I want a 29er rigid so the Unit would work. I'm good friends with the shop owner and he's looking around for me.
Buying a frame and building up a bike would be fine and really I would rather do that. I can build it myself.
Still possibly months away from doing anything if I do anything at all but just looking at options right now.

For a complete bike, the Redline monocog flights hard to beat for $900. Add a set of Stans wheels for a great ride.
