Cool, Don's still alive and doin' it? Does he still make his Shorty hardtails? I rode his almost 15 years ago and really really liked it. A road bike wheelbase does wonders on tight switchbacks. I'd love to have a SS Shortie.

    Not sure on the ...

"Shorty" hardtails. Just liked the look of his bikes. Kinda like a cool cruiser style, but trail worthy. His design does have real short stays for a 29' er.

    sounds like a different design

    29ers now? Cool...
The bike I rode had something like a 38" wheelbase, full rigid of course back then, and the frame was kinda of a space frame type construction with a lot of small brace tubes running every which way.

The dude is fast. On the 4th 'o July Salida ride he finishes the 100 mile ride hours before most of the young punks less than half his age.

Here is his rigid 29"er SS...

    "Don the Legend"

Did a ride with him last spring, right before he turned 60 and I can verify he isn't all hype. Kind of a quite guy but he can climb and straighten out the singletrack as well as an expert racer 30 years his junior. Makes ya kind of nervous to watch him ya know?... some people his age are bustin their hip on icy parking lots while he's still bustin' out technical singletrack on a rigid singlespeed!

Ride his wheel if you get the chance, ya won't forget it.

I would love to meet Don. A guy like him can really change your perspective on what your future beholds.

I whitewater kayaked with a guy in his 60's once. I wouldn't call him aggressive, but he was out with us doin it and lovin it. I hope to be like these guys, havin fun till the end. Can't ever see myself givin up on the sport due to age.
