    Need to decipher Bottom Bracket info

    Hey gang, I need to order a new bottom bracket to replace the POS that came on my Solo-One. I think I need to order a 68x118mm unit but want to make sure before I do.

    Here is the info on the BB;

    BC-73 (model number?)
    68
    BC 1.37x24t
    VP Components
    118mm

    The Shimano unit I found online is a UN-73 68x115mm, will that work fine? It's square taper so the alignment of the cranks is different everytime anyway. I don't know if 3mm makes a big difference, and if it does isn't it just 1.5mm per side?

    And a secondary question, I have to replace the headset on this bike as well and I'm leaning toward a Cane Creek S2. Before I email the store or Cane Creek themselves, can anyone tell me if new headsets come with the race that sits on the fork or is that an extra cost thing?

    Cheers!
    Karl

    Yeah your BB is a 68x118. Those other numbers on there are the model number, brand, and threading pitch. A 68x115 probably would work fine, but it will move your chainline slightly like you mentioned. I'd replace a 118 with a 118, but that's just me.

    The Cane Creek S2 is a good headset, and yes it will include the part that goes on the fork, called the crown race. Any time you buy a new headset it will include this part, because it is what engages the bearings in the lower headset cup and it is usually a little different for every brand. Good luck!
