... and if we just ... Mt St Helens view Ride

We had been planning to ride Strawberry mountain trail today and decided to go anyways even with a level 3 alert for Mt St Helens. Strawberry Mountain trail is a good 15 miles from the volcano and has a decent view into the crater. You can see all the blowdown on the opposite side of the valley and it came up to the ridge that we are on...

This trail has just recently been opened up and it is a jewel. Spectacular views, nice climbs and rippin' d/h. It pretty much runs along a ridge at 5000' right on the edge of the blast zone from the 1980 eruption, so we figured we'd be pretty safe as St Helens isn't expected to erupt greater than that eruptions.

Strawberry Mountain trail has great views of Mt. Rainier to the north

and Mt Adams to the east

we waited and waited for some St Helens action but our combined wills were insufficient to cause an eruption

If it erupts tonight, the prevailing winds would blow the ashfall to Longview, but the winds are changing so who knows.

    another great ride!

    Nice!

That looks like a great ride. I thought the Strawberry Mtn. area was closed to bikes, so it's nice to know it's open.
