    Melvin Tensioner on 9-speed Hub

    Hi There,

I have a SS converted Salsa Ala Carte with a DMR STS tensioner on the back, though i just stripped one of the threads and either need to get a new one or look elsewhere.

The Paul's Melvin Tensioner looks very trick and looks like it would do the job.

However, on my 9-speed hub, how much lateral adjustment is there in the Melvin to get the pulleys sitting directly under the cog?

Currently the cog is in the middle of the hub with the front chainring mounted in the middle ring position, will i have to move the chainring to the outer ring position on the cranks with the cog sitting on the outer side of the hub?

    Cheers,
    Wil

The Melvin accomodates the standard range of chainlines. I have run one with 9 speed hubs.

It is also more money than you need to spend to do the job and more vulnerable to damage than lower profile tensioners.
