looking for inexpensive $500 SS ideas

    Hello all

A co-worker has asked me about a simple bike for casual riding. He is looking for 1 speed, rigid fork, paved path and dirt road bike (For casueal rides with his wife and kids). His memory is of the old schwinn beach cruisers. Can anyone provide ideas of what is available off-the-shelf? He's not looking for a project. Around $500 is his limit. Avid disks would be a nice touch.

    Thanks,
    Bob

casual bike path rides? Why not go back to memories? Throw some knobbier tires on and you're done. No discs though, but you could swap the fork for one with tabs and add a brake. MSRP $319

    eBay.

Seriously, there's always SS's listed. I use the search string "single*" under the "cycling" section. Pretty easy to find a used (sometimes new) Bianchi BASS, Kona Unit, or KHS.
