    length of crank arms?

Hey all. I'm not sure if anybody asked this question yet or not, but what's the ideal crank arm length? I will be riding a 29" wheel and it will, of course, be a SS. I've never ridden either 29" or single speed, but i'm getting a custom 29"/SS frame built for me based on all the positive things i keep reading about here. Any advice on anything related on getting the ideal frame and parts? Thanks...

Most SS riders tend to go up a bit in crank length. I run 175mm on my MTB and road gearies and 180mm on my MTB SS. I run 175mm on my cyclocross SS because of front tire/shoe clearance issues. Length is largely a personal preference. The extra leverage gained by longer cranks is a plus on a SS up to a certain point. There comes a point of diminishing returns as you have to turn them in circles - if your legs can't make bigger circles then it's a loss.

I seem to recall reading a thread about that recently. If only there were an easy way to find it...

You are a brave man. Never ridden a 29er. Never ridden a SS. Buying a custom SS 29er.
Hope you like it. Not everyone does.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

I was wondering the same thing. What size to use on my Cross Check, 170,172.5 or 175.
People say it depends your inseam for road and cyclecross. I have a 30" inseam. So what do I use.

Absolutely brilliant! Though I find that sarcasm is often misinterpreted through the Internet.

Okay, since I'm such a nice guy I stayed up all night and sifted through every thread since Dec. 2003 and found some that pertain:
