Lemming Rally -- Randolph, VT [o]

Every year I head home for a vacation and organize a ride. This year it was the Real Circus Ride out of Randolph, VT. With the exception of SueB ( who posts on the women’s forum) and Bikehigh (occasional poster here), none of these people are mtbr regulars. But I thought I’d share the pics anyway. These folks, many of whom I’d never met before, blindly followed my lead over 40 miles of trail (and roughly 6000 feet of climbing) I’d never ridden. Hence the lemmings.

The lemmings at the start. Bikehigh is third from the front and SueB is second from the back.

Looking over at our objective after the warm up climb (the second 2 of the first 3 miles were climbing). We’d cross the Northfield mountains twice: once over Braintree Gap and once over Randolph Gap.

Classic northern New England “single track”: ruts on either side from 4wd trucks, with a ribbon of trail in the center. Look at that grin.

Although there was minimal single track on this ride, a good time was had by all.

Looks like everyone had a great time. I swear I'm going to make it up to VT in the summer one of these days. Snow is great, but I want to bike there too.

I think that last pic, with all the smiles, is misleading. By then everyone knew we had about 2000ft of descending to the parking lot. Nothing like hitting 40 on an SS.

I'll put you in the loop for next year's installment. Not enough SSers on this ride. And if you want a map and cue sheet for the Circus ride, let me know.

    August

SSO I'll be heading up for a mini-family vacation in Vermont the weekend of August 21/22. I plan to hit the Kingdom Trails (both sides!) on at least one of those days. Would be cool to have friends along or meet up with some VT SS'ers!

For some reason it wasn't buggy at all. Can't figure it out, but I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth either.

Can you take some of the rain that's falling in the southeast? Its gonna ruin my weekend if it doesn't let up soon.
