    ... and if we just ... I have joined the clan of SS

    I have joined the SS crew, i took my old 03 fuji outland and bought new rims and a SS conversion. its great! 32-16. seems like a whole new bike once i trashed the old junk shifters and derailures. also upgraded to hayes 9 brakes

    That is the way to roll SS. The outer chainring acts as a bashguard and the little one weight for training.

    crank and bash guard

    short term im going to be cautious. that crank is brand new has only 2 miles on it. i think i might buy a new crank just for the bike. something not so beafy. that crank can go to another place.

    Any suggestions on a crank?

    crank should be fine, you can just get a SS specific chainring for it. But if you want a different one, it all depends on what you want to spend. do you have a budget in mind?

    on the cheap

    im looking to go on the cheap, ive got alot of stuff allready and just want to try it out. so i may just stick with what i have and swap a bash guard
