which hubs & brakes for a budget SS build?

I am upgrading my old V's to disks for winter riding, an would like a few suggestions for a wheel set & brakes.
Looking at hope pro 2 front & pro 2 trials for the rear on mavic 717 disc if I can afford them-(might just use my old rims to save a few $). 160mm rotors & avid BB7 brakes.
Hopes aren't cheap but are a good buy/performer for the $. The cheaper hydro brakes are pretty crappy for feel & weight.I have a set of race x2's on my other bike but can't really justify the cost on a budget SS to the wife .

Do you want a cassette style hub or a screw-on freewheel style hub?

If you're on a budget and don't mind the screw-on freewheel, you can't go wrong with the Surly New Hubs with a WI freewheel. Should be less expensive than the Hopes.

I looked at white Ind eno hub & the surly but the cost of screw ons put me off. With the hope I can use DX cogs that are cheap and easily had, to change my gearing for different courses.
A set of kings would be nice but they are 2x the $ of hope here. I also looked at tektro brakes, avid juicy 3-5 & shimano deore but the feel is rubbish and they are heavy.

I think you are on the right track with BB7s.
If you're on a budget look for some used wheels, or some OEM take-offs.
