    good ratio for commuting?

Hi, never SS before but I want to build up a SS 700c wheel communter (maybe). Would a 2:1 ratio still be a good starting point for such size wheels for commuting? Thanks.

You'll probably want something bigger than a 2:1 for the road otherwise you will probably spin out. It all depends on how hilly your commute is. A bunch of people run in the 42:16 - 17 range (around 2.5:1).

I'll aim for that ratio first. Thanks.

I use 42/16 or 15, depending on which wheel in installed, on my fixed 700c commuter. Back in the day when roadies trained on fixed gear bikes during the winter, 42/16 was the gear.

    Ditto on the gear ratio

I prefer something around 71 gear inch. Works well with some modest climbing.

I'm using On-One Il Pompino mostly for commuting and 48:18 is ok for me.
