Gearing for Return on the Jedi?

I'd really appreciate some help selecting my gearing for Sunday's race. I am old and slow so nobody needs to worry about me stealing their spot on the podium. I run a 34x18 or 34x19 down here in Santa Cruz. I have a 21 tooth freewheel that I could go to if a lower ratio is advisable. Thanks in advance!

Mark, I used my usual 34x20 for that course. The main climb is a long steady forest road which becomes a flatish to slightly downhill run along the ridge. I was able to maintain a steady 50rpm on the main climb and was passing gearies.

I would say 34x19 is you are feeling strong and, 34x21 if you want to relax a bit more.

    Run your regular gearing

But bring the ability to switch into a "twenty four inch gear". (That is using your two feet to push!)
I like to start out slow and then back it off a notch.

I tried the 21 this morning, and I think I am going back to the 19. I am used to climbing standing a lot, and the 21 tooth was giving me too much torque and not enough forward motion for my riding style.

How does the climb compare to say the Lemurian, or the 1910 road at the 'Puff? I am assuming that singlespeeds race the long course at the Jedi. Right?

Thanks for the 411, hopefully see you later in the week! Good luck with the 'Puff!

The climb is easier than 1910 with a more consistent grade (as far as I remember). Then it flattens near the top before the slight downhill.
