First Time SS Build Need Some Advice

I picked up a nice donor bike. After I take off the group I'll be left with a frame/fork and wheels. So, I'm thinking this is a good to time to try a SS. The bike is a 1986 Rockhopper spaced 126mm in the rear. The rear hub is threaded so a BMX freewheel should go on. My question becomes what to use for a crank and BB?

A garage full of steel frames means happiness.

On my budget SS build I used the existing cranks and BB. I too have a threaded rear hub and am running a BMX freewheel with a 3mm spacer. on the spider, I'm running the internal ring position.

That's what I was thinking. But the group less wheels is going on another vintage bike. I bought this as a donor bike. It's so nice that I figure I can do something with it other than CL or ebay it. So, that leaves me without a BB or crank.

Ahhh ok, you could head to the lbs and see if they have some used cranks and BB laying around... Then pick up a hbc chainring.

Look for an FSA Maximus crankset on ebay. I picked up a brand new set a couple of weeks ago for $12. No joke the seller had several sets. They came with a 22t and 32t chainrings + bash guard. Remove either chainring and voila, Singlespeed cranks. Good luck with the project.
