    Discontinued parts...

My favorite handle bar is the Bontrager Racelight 620mm with a 5 deg bend. They don't make it any longer (but I do have a couple extra just in case). How about you? What favorite part have they stopped making. I'll do everyone a favor and throw in the WTB Dirtdrops

The original Avid disc brake with the magnet pad retainers. Work much better than the spring clips for me. I think I have 9 spare v.1 calipers?

Mt Zefal frame pumps! Big plastic barrels. Available in 3-4 lengths. Nice thumb lock. They WORKED and were durable!

How 'bout the Fisher BearTrax 2.6? I rode a pair of those for a while, too.

race face turbines and next lps, anything kooka or carumba. the old style shimano stuff before the dual control levers and the outboard cranks, just about anything that ever came in colors other than silver and black. every now and then i'll look through a circa 1996 mtb action and see all the killer parts, drives me crazy that they don't make most of the stuff anymore.

I'll second that. I love these bars. Why did they ever stop making these????

Other'n that I ain't got much that I miss. Most of the stuff out there is gone for a reason I suspect. It would be fun to find an old tire mold like the Fattrax/Beartrax and make some again. That square block pattern is back and all the rage again. Weren't they made by Vittoria? Anyone know Italian?

Indexed thumbies ARE back. Just grab the Paul mount and some Shimano Barend shifters(both 8 and 9 speed), and your set. Or for the campy-files out there, Moonhead Machine makes a similar mount for Campy barend shifters. 30 speed DT anyone?[shivers...]

I think one of my LBS' has those in stock. In fact his back room has more old skool stuff in it than most shops have new inventory. Mostly drivetrain. I asked the owner why he doesn't ebay it all but he wants it around for the rare occasion that someone needs a replacement.

I spent an afternoon there one day just digging through all the labeled boxes of parts. Fun! (for us anyway). Purple Ringle hubs in the display case!

I would say I miss the cool looking Onza HO canti brakes, but every single one of the four arms cracked on me. Farewell, Onza.

the Serfas Arc DD Pro women's saddle. best saddle ever made....as it was made in 1998 (they subsequently redesigned it and then discontinued it).

and the Schwinn glitter grips. i've got a stockpile in several colors.

fortunately i can still find the glitter grips on ebay. the saddles are much harder to come by.

I've only been riding for about a year, so I don't really have a lot of history to fall back on. But one thing I have fallen in love with that's not quite as readily available any more is a lugged steel frame. Sure, one can still order one up via a custom builder, but that's a lot of work and probably just as much money. I just wish they were more readily available as alternatives to the rows upon rows of welded aluminum when you walk into a bike shop.

These were already mentioned, but here is my (short) list:

Shimano Thumbshifters! I know you can make new ones with the Paul mounts and some barend shifters, and I tried that, just didn't work out for me. Fortunately, I have a stash of like 5 sets ready to go. I even had a part machined to make them into 9 speeds, works great! Sorry for the geary content.

Race Face Turbine square taper 94mm cranks: Simple, light, and indestructible (for me anyway).

Sampson Fatgrips (or something like that). They had a big fin that went back from the grip that you rested your hands on. They were have as death, but they ruled. Control Tech Team Issue bar ends, but they are still around on ebay. That's all I can think of now, but I'm sure there's something else.
