    Cyclocross tires on rigid 29er

I am going to do some Cyclocross races this fall on my rigid 29er and I'm wondering what tires to run. This will be my first time racing cyclocross so I'm not ready to buy a cycloscross specific bike but i want to try and make my Kona Unit as competitive as possible. Any tire recomendations would be helpful. Thanks.

If you're running tubeless, I hear Maxxis Mud Wrestler EXO are easily mounted and have rigid sides, which is better at low pressures compared to very compliant ones like Schwalbe Racing Ralphs.

First time? Just run stock tires. No reason to get a CX specific tire. Just gear it up to 32x16-17 or so and have at it.

I ran some 35c kenda kommando this weekend. Flatted 2 times. I'm going to get some thinner, fast rolling mtb tires and run those instead. No issues with grip or mounting the tires, but apparently I have issues riding cx tires on my mtb.

Thanks for the feedback, my current tires are about done so i need to get something soon, the mudwrestler looks like a good tire and I guess I'll stay clear of the Kommando but I might do what you said and just ride with my mountain bike tires. don't think I'll be winning anyways with my heavy Kona Unit.

Plenty of competitive racers still run MTB tires (as long as the rules allow).

Kommandos hooked up REALLY well… BUT I flatted… twice. Once in the warm up and once in the same spot (other wheel) in the race, only 3 minutes in. I had even adjusted pressure and tried to miss the mystery tire eating area. That was a bummer.

I'm probably going to swap to a fast rolling mtb tire because apparently I lack the skill to not flat cx tires on this bike. I ran cx tires on my cx bike all last year at lower pressure and no issues at all!
