    Creaking Surly

Any other 1x1 owners get some frame creaking when applying heavy torque? I thought at first it was my seatpost, but have recently discovered that the noise is coming from the rear triangle where the rear wheel attaches.

If I tighten up the rear skewer, the noise goes away for a bit, but returns a few miles later. I thought about applying some grease to the contact points, but I'm afraid that might invite some slippage. Any other cure for this? The noise is driving me nuts...

Yup, a QR skewer with a Surly chain tug. It's been like this for about a year with no problems. The creaking has just started within the last 2 weeks.

    Disk brakes?

Do you have disk brakes? I noticed a squeek when applying torque on my drive side pedal. Just needed to adjust the Avid BB7.

    Good job! Bb??

Is your bottom bracket snugged up? My two cents.....it is NOT your frame/rear triangle.

My 1X1 is the only bike in my stable that has never "peeped". And, it's now the LIGHTEST bike I own!

    I'm stunned.

    It's your skewer.

The only thing that creaks on my 1x1 is me.
