    Crank question

Can I use any square-tapered cranks on a square tapered mountain bike BB?

Specifically, can I use an any cheopo square taper ROAD crankset I find on Ebay on an old Trek 4300 that's being built up as a SS get-to-school bike? I believe it has some crummy shimano or something square BB.

    Thanks

Francis--If you see this: I'll drop the check off from Downieville tomorrow since I keep on forgetting to do so.

    Good job!

Sure you can. One of my beater commuters has an old Dura Ace crankset converted to single-ring use. Works dandy!

    Yes and no!

You can use any Shimano or Shimano compatible square taper crank(almost everything), but you cannot use a Campagnolo crank, which I believe uses a different standard.
