    Crank and BB recommendation/help needed

i am currently trying to convert my stock trek 3700 into a 1x9 setup. (I'm pretty new to this mountain bike thing). I would like to use a shimano un-54 BB and a 32T middleburn chainring (4-arm 104/64 bcd). I was wondering what size BB is best to use and also what (budget minded, between $50 - $100) crank arms would work best with this setup?

I think you'll have a tough time finding any sqare taper (to use with a UN54 BB) 64/104mm cranks (to use with that Middleburn ring). Those are some pretty specific components you'd like to use...is it stuff you already have?

    Yes, it will.

So, I'm guessing your cranks have riveted chainrings?

If you don't already have the ring and BB, why not just get a Shimano Deore crank and a $30 octalink BB. It will be reliable, and you can just run the middle ring until it wears out then upgrade or upgrade now. Octalink BB are better than cheapo Square tapers.
