Converting old 21 spd mtb into SS

I'm 99.9% sure I am ready to convert my old 21 speed mtb to SS. But have no idea what I am doing, other than enjoying learning as much as I can before I take the plunge.

My question is can I use a converter kit? They all seem to say they are good for 8-10 speed cassette hub. But I have a 7 speed cassette. Will the conversion kits still work?

Does this even make sense, or am I thinking I can do it, just because I read how to???? lol

Is it a 7 speed cassette or freewheel?

I think with the exception of some VERY early road stuff, the shimano freehub bodies all use the same spline pattern so if its a cassette you should be good.
Yeah I only carry cans cause I'm a weight weenie.

Post up a pic of it. If it has horizontal drop outs on the rear wheel ... you're cookin with gas man!
Suicide by single speed. Work in progress.

planning the same conversion myself this summer on my old BSO, it does have horizontal dropouts as well.

Well here we go again N +1

Decided to get an entry level SS first to ease into it. Picked up a cheap one so it probably won't last long, but specs look good and it rides okay.
