Converting 3x to a single speed questions.

Hey there everyone. I'm new to the forum and still fairly new to the sport. I ride a 2017 giant talon3. I still have the stock drivetrain which offer the 3 sprockets in the front and a 8 speed cassette (shimano brand everything shifters and derailleur). As the title suggests I'm interested in converting it to a single speed with a 9speed cassette. My questions,

Will a 9speed shimano cassette fit with my current setup? if so are there any ones I would that would be recommended or I should stay away from?

Was considering trying out sram products (cassette, derailleur, and shifters) during this conversion. Is this something that could be done with the current rear wheel and hub, or would it be more trouble?

How to pick the right derailleur specifically long or short cage?

How do I know which shifters will work with which ever derailleur I choose?

If I choose to get a cranks will any cranks work with my bottom bracket or do they come in sets?

Sorry in advance for the long post and many questions. thanks for any replies

What your asking about is a 1x drivetrain question, not a SS question. The term Singlespeed means one gear. One Chainring and one Cog, no derailleur no shifting. Try contacting a Moderator and having your question moved to the drivetrain forum where you will get better responses.

FYI there's tons of information on how to convert to a 1x drivetrain. Do some reading and you'll be able to answer many of your own questions. Also, stop by your LBS, they can help you do the conversion with the correct parts.
    Rigid SS 29er
    SS 29+
    Fat Lefty
    SS cyclocross
    Full Sus 29er (Yuck)

Stop asking how much it weighs and just go ride it.
